During the first year of the project SATH launched a series of new initiatives that lay the foundation for delivering results through the outer years of the project. These include:

  • Enhancing Trade Liberalization in Southern Africa;
  • Activities aimed at reducing the time taken to 'Trade across Borders';
  • Improving energy regulation to encourage investment in clean energy; and,
  • Activities to increase international and regional trade in the priority value chains.

Internship Opportunity

The intern will join SATH to garner on-the-job experience and assist during the exercise of revision of the Performance Monitoring Plan and other related instruments. He/she will particularly focus on the routine data collection, entry and analysis in the different components of SATH work. Through daily interaction with other experts and professionals, the candidate will benefit from exposure to the different technical areas that SATH focuses on. The intern will be based in Gaborone at the SATH offices, Tholo Park, Fairgrounds, for a period of about 3 months.

It focuses on identifying the key agriculturally-based value chains and assessing these value chains in terms of growth-potential and capability to benefit as many smallholders, small enterprises and the poor as possible. The value chains are also assessed according to whether or not they are capable of being scaled-up or replicated in other countries, given similarity within the respective agricultural economies.

This manual addresses the market potential and development strategies for renewable energy technologies (RETs) in the SADC region. It is primarily aimed at commissioners and board members of the regional energy regulatory agencies. Such agencies across the SADC region constitute an important component of their national policy and institutional frameworks for promoting sustainable and environmentally safe energy supply. Energy regulators play a key role in national and regional efforts to promote clean energy for sustainable development. Their work is crucial for ensuring a transparent and predictable energy regulatory framework that is essential for attracting private sector investment while safeguarding consumer interests.
